WaterColors LLC can help provide cost-effective solutions for meeting the requirements of the Virginia Graeme Pool and Spa Safety Act (VGB Law). The goal of the VGB Law is to make every public pool and spa safe for children and adults by protecting them from suction entrapment on pool drains. Because water flows in the path of least resistance, having at least two ports on each suction line is designed to eliminate accidents. By making every suction line a dual port, unecessary accidents can be prevented.
Most older pools due not have dual ports on every line. But they can easily be altered to meet the VGB requirements. The pool contractor tee's or splits the single drain into two drains, ensures that the sump is the correct depth, then covers the two drains with VGB compliant covers.
Here is a check list to determine if your pool and/or spa is VBG compliant:
- Do all suction lines have dual ports that are at least 3-6 ft apart (different states and counties have different requirements)?
- Do all suction ports have stamped VGB 2008 compliant drain covers?
- If all suction lines have dual ports and VGB 2008 covers, then the pool/spa is compliant.
